ARTIS

An Innovative Framework for Creative Learning through Art in Schools

ARTiS is an international creative learning project connecting contemporary artists, cultural professionals, and lower secondary school pupils across Czechia, Slovakia, Germany, and Italy.

THE PROJECT

The project is based on a simple idea: contemporary art, creativity, and the opportunity for free self-expression should be a natural part of every child’s education, regardless of their social background or where they live.

ARTiS builds on the successful Czech programme Artists in Schools, which has been developed over the past three years. As part of the project, pupils work directly with professional artists and explore different forms of contemporary art. They create in an open and supportive environment where performance and evaluation are not the focus. Instead, the emphasis is on their own ideas, experimentation, and the joy of creating. Pupils also discover what goes on behind the scenes of an exhibition. They take on the roles of curators, producers, technicians, and PR professionals and collaboratively prepare their own public exhibition directly within their school.

ARTiS supports creativity, self-confidence, critical thinking, collaboration, and the courage to find one’s own path. At the same time, it creates opportunities for international exchange and cooperation between artists, schools, and cultural organisations.
Through pilot activities, international cooperation, and the sharing of experiences and educational resources, ARTiS aims to develop a sustainable European model connecting schools with the world of contemporary art. The goal is for the experience and knowledge gained through the project to benefit schools, artists, and cultural institutions long after the project itself has ended – in Czechia and across Europe.

The ARTiS project is co-funded by the European Union.
